New Madison News: Hoping for sunshine today

Groundhog day is coming and more predictions. Sometimes we base so much on just a prediction. Woolly worms fall into the same category of nature’s forecasting.

I am hoping for sunshine today. I just like a bright day and I am not sure any groundhog has any inside network with Mother Nature. It does mark a midpoint in winter’s worst weather. That is a good thing!

Another good thing this week is the conclusion of the Iowa caucusing. It is hard to believe that one state can receive so much attention and campaigning. The population is around three million. Ohio has over 11 million people. Granted it is the initial showing of candidate interest, but there is a long road ahead for all candidates, Republican or Democrat.

Regardless of the shadows or sunshine, there is one guarantee. There will be six more weeks of campaigning and phone calls. Sadly there will be more than six weeks of the same rhetoric and poll results.

Of local interest there was a good turnout at the Scott George presentation last week at the Community Building. Returning to his home town, Scott is seeking a primary win for John Boehner’s seat from the Ohio 8th Congressional District.

This week’s congratulations go to Marcus Michael, son of Georgia and Terry Michael. He has been designated a Fulbight Scholar and will be spending a year in Bulgaria.

Congratulations to Phyllis and Wilson Bunger on 65 years of marriage.

Congrats to the Tri-Village power lifting program. Two power lifters received first placed in a meet at Kenton Ridge in Clark County. Harding Stevenson was the winner in the ninth-tenth grade boys 250 pound weight class and Seth Earls won the 11th-12th-grade boys 250 pound and above class. Overall the girls placed fifth and the boys placed sixth in a 10- school competition.
