Arcanum News: Support library levy renewal

0

The trustees of the Arcanum Public Library have voted to place a renewal of the existing 1.0 mill library support levy on the upcoming primary 15 ballot.

Originally the levy was passed in 2011 to replenish the 30 percent cut in funding by the state. Please support our local library on March 15 with your vote for the renewal levy; you will not see an increase in your taxes. Income generated by the levy will allow the library to maintain its current hours and variety of services. The levy will be on the ballot for voters within the Arcanum Butler Local School District; it will also be continuous, so it will remain in place unless it needs to be changed through a future ballot measure. The library staff and trustees feel that the library continues to offer a good value for the community and appreciate the public support of the library and the levy. Please direct any questions or comments with one of the levy co-chairmen: Marilyn Walden at 692-8484 or Paul Myers at 692-8115.

To date, the Arcanum Alumni Scholarship fund has provided scholarships and student support worth over $88,900 to 138 promising AHS graduates who demonstrated financial need, academic promise, and community involvement since 1966. The first scholarship recipient, Gary Foureman (Class of ’66) shared the following with the committee: “It’s been 50 years and I would like to tell you how that scholarship affected me both then and subsequently throughout my life. As seniors, we have many things pulling at us, each with its unknowns and uncertainties. Back then all these things were coupled with our own insecurities and doubts and fears. A signal was desperately needed to make things clearer and impart confidence. The AAS was that signal for me. I thought ‘A lot of fine people think that I can do this and are even pledging resources for me to do it.’ And I did. The AAS was a definite stepping stone that gave me a solid footing of confidence and resources to go up and forward. Even as I achieved my higher goals, which includes a Ph.D graduate degree, I continued to sincerely acknowledge the AAS as being an invaluable personal endorsement in beginning a fulfilling life journey.”

Last year’s scholarship recipients, Evan Diemler, Brandon Fourman and Amanda Michael all wanted to express their sincere appreciation as well for the support shown to them through the AAS. The Arcanum Alumni asks that you consider sending a donation to the Scholarship Fund to further the education of our current senior class. The scholarships are funded by local businesses and the alumni base. Donations are encouraged and accepted by Terri (Warner) Bailey, 6009 Grubbs-Rex Road, Arcanum, Ohio 45304.
