Bradford baseball team beats Marion Local

MARIA STEIN – The Bradford baseball team beat Marion Local 14-5 on Saturday.

Marion took a 1-0 first inning lead before Bradford scored two runs in the top of the second to go up 2-1. Marion regained the lead with three runs in the bottom of the third to go up 4-2. After Bradford tied the game at 4-4 in the top of the fourth, Marion Local took the lead once more with a run in the bottom half of the inning. Bradford came through with 10 runs in the next two innings – four in the fifth and six in the sixth – to win 14-5.

Bradford had 13 hits and one error in the game. Marion Local had eight hits and four errors.

Walker Branson was 3-for-4 with a walk, a double, a triple, a RBI and three runs scored for Bradford. Parker Smith went 2-for-4 with a walk, a double, a run scored and four RBIs. Mason Justice was 2-for-5 with two RBIs. Clay Layman went 2-for-3 with two walks, stole a base and scored two runs.

Bryant Byers was 1-for-2 with two walks, two RBIs and a run scored. Wade Gerlach went 1-for-4 with a walk, two stolen bases and two runs scored. Dillon Reck was 1-for-2 with two walks, a RBI and three runs scored. Andy Branson was 1-for-5 with a RBI. Bryson Canan walked three times, stole three bases and scored two runs.

Justice earned the win as he pitched five innings and allowed four earned runs and one unearned run on seven hits, five walks, one hit batter and three strikeouts. Andy Branson pitched two scoreless innings, allowing one hit and no walks while striking out four.

Bradford improved to 3-3 with the win.
