House conservative leader warns against rigging convention

WASHINGTON (AP) – A conservative leader in the House is warning Republican Party officials against making any rules changes at the GOP convention that would allow someone other than the anti-establishment front-runners to grab the presidential nomination.

Rep. Jim Jordan of Ohio heads the House Freedom Caucus. He says the results so far from the primary contests show that GOP voters want an anti-establishment candidate.

Jordan notes that Donald Trump and Ted Cruz – between them – have been getting large majorities, while Ohio Gov. John Kasich (KAY’-sihk) is running a distant third.

Jordan hasn’t made an endorsement.

He tells C-SPAN’s “Newsmakers” program that any move to try to change existing rules for the July convention in Cleveland and make it easier for someone else to become the nominee would create “real concerns.”
