GREENVILLE – The Greenville Green Wave took on the Fairborn Skyhawks in a game at home Friday night, losing 7-4.

Chris Force, a senior, started out pitching for the Wave. The first inning started out with the Skyhawks scoring three runs.

In the bottom of the first, however, the Wave scored four runs to make the score 4-3 in their favor. Greenville got RBIs from Tanner Ross, Brayden York and Grant Minnich in the inning.

In the top of the second inning Andy Gilbert hit a home run for Fairborn, scoring three runs and putting the Skyhawks up 6-4.

However, then the Wave put a stop to it. Right before the home run, Greenville switched its pitcher to Owen Paulus. After the home run he took the next three batters and struck them out.

Greenville and Fairborn both held each other from scoring again until the bottom of the seventh.

In the seventh inning the Wave walked Jon Fields. Fields then stole second, third and finally home, m making the score 7-4.

Greenville’s pitchers struck out the Skyhawks seven times. The Green Wave had four hits and a total of three errors. The Skyhawks had seven hits and four errors.

“I thought we played really well,” Greenville baseball coach Eric Blumenstock said. “We were low on our pitching. We had to use our pitchers for two games on Tuesday night and then one on Wednesday night both being conference games. Owen, through, a heck of a game tonight, and he kept right in there. We could have definitely used a few extra hits. Fairborn is a good ball club.”

Last year Fairborn beat the Wave, knocking them out of the tournament.

“It would have been nice to get a redemption tonight,” Blumenstock said.

Fairborn improved to 6-5 with the win, Greenville fell to 2-7.
