Ansonia baseball team swept by Marion Local

MARIA STEIN – The Ansonia baseball team lost a pair of 15-0 games to Marion Local on Saturday.

In the opener of the doubleheader Marion Local scored seven runs in the first inning, three in the second, three in the third and two in the fourth in a five-inning run rule. The Flyers had 10 hits and no errors while the Tigers had four hits and four errors.

Dane Wentworth had a double for Ansonia. Lane Clark went 1-for-1 with a walk. Josh Heitkamp and Tyler Neal also had hits.

Rygh Fortkamp was charged with the loss for Ansonia as he pitched 2 1/3 innings, allowing seven earned runs and six unearned runs on nine hits, seven walks and three strikeouts. Jarvis Thwaits pitched 2/3 of an inning, allowing no runs on no hits, no walks and one strikeout. Kane Kimmel pitched an inning and allowed one earned run and one unearned run on one hit, one walk and three strikeouts.

In the second game Marion Local scored nine runs in the first inning, one in the second, one in the third and four in the fourth. Marion had 11 hits and no errors, and Ansonia had one hit and one error.

Wentworth had Ansonia’s lone hit off Jon Schmitz and also stole a base.

Cody Burnfield pitched the complete game for Ansonia, allowing 14 earned runs and one unearned run on 11 hits, seven walks and four strikeouts.
