VERSAILLES – Versailles senior Kristin Langston committed to join the Ohio Northern University volleyball team on Friday afternoon.

Langston, the daughter of Jeff and Cindy Langston, said having an opportunity to play college volleyball is the culmination of a lifelong dream.

“I’m really excited to play volleyball at the next level,” she said. “It’s something I’ve always dreamed about as a kid, and I’m really excited to try something new see how that goes for me.”

Langston, who will study business management in college, said Ohio Northern was a great fit for her academically and athletically.

“I have a few friends and relatives that have went there, and they’ve loved the school,” she said. “I really loved the campus when I went. I met the coaches, and they were really personal and they just seemed like they were very easy to get along with. They seemed a lot like me so I got along with them well, and I really liked the team. I came and watched a game and liked that as well. So I just liked the whole school in general.”

Langston helped the Versailles volleyball team reach the Ohio High School Athletic Association state final four twice in her high school career, winning a state championship as a sophomore in 2013.

“I had the pleasure of coaching Kristin for four years, and it was quite the honor,” former Versailles volleyball coach Karla Frilling said. “She’s a hard worker. Great in practice as far as you can kind of put her with a group of kids and she’s gonna run with it so good leader. Kind of a quiet leader in a way on the court but her work ethic is what set her apart from other kids. I really enjoyed coaching her.”

Having played in big matches against tough competition in high school, Frilling said Langston is ready for the challenge of playing at the college level.

“I think she’s seen some good competition in her high school career,” Frilling said. “It’s obviously going to be that next level of competition, but I think she’s got some good seasoning under her, and I think she’s going to do really well.”

Langston anticipates playing libero at Ohio Northern.

“I know there’s one other girl that’s being recruited in my class so we’ll have to battle it out and see how that goes,” she said.

In Ohio Northern Langston is joining an NCAA Division III program that finished 24-6 last season. The Polar Bears were the Ohio Athletic Conference runner up.

“Just want to do as well as I can on the volleyball court and I want to get the best education that I possibly can,” Langston said of her goals in college. “One day learn everything I can in the business field and maybe start my own business someday.”
