GREENVILLE — Area leaders and residents gathered at Saint Paul’s Episcopal Church Thursday to take part in the National Day of Prayer.
The service, normally conducted in front of the Greenville Municipal Building, was held at the church due to cold weather.
A number of speakers were featured during the service, each offering a prayer for particular portions of society.
Greenville Mayor Mike Bowers opened the program with a prayer for the community. He was followed by Captain Luke O. McKeeth, U.S. Air Force Chaplain who prayed for the military.
Midmark Corp. Dental Operations Planner Amy Denlinger prayed for the business community. State Representative Jim Buchy offered up a prayer for government leaders.
Darke County Common Pleas Court Judge Jonathan Hein prayed for the judicial system, while Greenville High School senior Karena Wills prayed for education.
Darke County United Way Director Christy Baker offered a prayer for service organizations, with Christian and Missionary Alliance Pastor Shawn Harrison praying for families.
Real Estate Broker Aleene Cromwell from Act-1 Realty prayed for the medical community. WDTN Channel 2 Morning Anchor John Seibel prayed for the media.
Pastor Ted McCurdy of First Congregational Christian Church prayed for the church and revival.
Minister Jim Morehouse of East Main Church of Christ offered welcoming and closing remarks. The Simple Gifts Quartet — Dale Musser, Carl Jones, Tom Menke and Joseph Helfrich — offered musical accompaniment.
Eighth-grade students from St. Mary’s Catholic School led the audience in the Pledge of Allegiance with American Legion Post 140 providing a color guard for the ceremony.
