

NEW BREMEN – Versailles beat New Bremen 2-1 on Tuesday to claim a share of the Midwest Athletic Conference softball championship.
New Bremen scored first with one run in the bottom half of the second inning. Versailles then responded with two runs in the third inning to win by one.
Lauren Heitkamp reached base on a New Bremen error to start the rally. Then Kristin Langston hit a one-out single and Sarah Gigandet hit a double to drive in both runners, giving Versailles its one-run margin of victory.
Versailles had three hits and no errors in the game. New Bremen had five hits and four errors.
Gigandet was 1-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Langston was 1-for-3 and scored a run. Courtney McEldowney was 1-for-2. Heitkamp scored a run.
Heitkamp pitched the complete game for Versailles, allowing one run on five hits, three walks and seven strikeouts.
Versailles’ win increased its record to 15-8 overall and 6-1 in the MAC. Tuesday’s loss was the first of the conference season for New Bremen, who earned a share of the league title along with Versailles.
Parkway, which has one conference game remaining on Friday against Coldwater, also has a chance to earn a share of the conference championship.
