GREENVILLE — On Tuesday, Wayne HealthCare administrators and staff gathered to enjoy tasty baked goods and a hot “cup o’ joe” as they officially welcomed a branch of Brenda’s Beanery to the hospital.
Located inside the hospital’s main lobby, Brenda’s Beanery, owned by Brenda Stump, will serve a wide variety of coffee and pastries to employees and hospital visitors.
“I want to thank the whole hospital staff for how very generous they’ve been,” said Stump, who owns and operates her parent coffee shop at 410 South Broadway in Greenville. “They have went above and beyond. Anything we’ve needed, they’ve gotten for us.”
Stump also praised Wayne’s Vice President of Support Services Jeff Subler, Plant Services Manager Tim Mitchell and Environment Services Director Lisa Garland for their help in getting the venture up and running.
“They’ve been wonderful people to work with, very accommodating,” she said. “When Jeff called and asked if I wanted to do this, I jumped at the chance and said ‘Sure we do!’”
Brenda’s Beanery serves a broad range of flavored coffees, including such specialties as “White Elephant” (creamy white chocolate), “Snickerdoodle” (cinnamon and hazelnut), and “Brenda’s Buckeye” (chocolate and peanut butter) as well as many other varieties. The less adventurous can stick to a regular hot java.
Further, Brenda’s serves baked goods, including donuts, muffins and bagels.
The Brenda’s location at Wayne offers a scaled-down menu versus the main shop. Stacey Arnold serves as manager of the branch. Though Tuesday marked the official opening, the shop has been in operation at Wayne since May 17.
Subler said the idea had been in the works for about a year and called the venture “an overwhelming success.”
“We were glad to be able to provide it and kind of step into the 21st Century,” he said.
Terri Flood, Wayne’s director of Marketing and Communications, called the addition of Brenda’s “wonderful.”
“It’s another way to improve the experience for patients, their families and the hospital’s employees,” she said.
