Mississinawa Valley baseball team loses 2 games at Mechanicsburg

MECHANICSBURG – The Mississinawa Valley baseball team lost two games in a doubleheader on Saturday at Mechanicsburg.

Mississinawa Valley lost the first game 11-5.

Mississinawa took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but Mechanicsburg scored three runs in both the first and second innings to go up 6-1. MV added one run in the fourth inning, one in the fifth and two in the sixth while Mechanicsburg scored two runs in the fourth and three in the fifth.

MV had 10 hits and three errors while Mechanicsburg had six hits and two errors.

Trent Collins went 3-for-4 with a double, a RBI and two runs. Ethan Dirksen went 3-for-4. Cody Dirksen was 2-for-4 with a double and a RBI.

Andrew Johns went 1-for-3, was hit by a pitch, drove in a run and scored a run. Casey Rust was 1-for-3. Cameron Shimp drove in a run. Zac Longfellow and Damon McGhee both scored a run.

Collins pitched three innings, allowing three earned runs and three unearned runs on two hits, four walks and three strikeouts. Shimp pitched two innings and allowed two earned runs and three unearned runs on four hits, two walks and two strikeouts. Cody Dirksen pitched one inning and allowed no runs on no hits, one walk and three strikeouts.

Mechanicsburg came from behind to win game two 9-8.

Mississinawa Valley took a 4-0 lead with a run in the first inning and three in the second. Mechanicsburg scored one in the second and four in the fourth to lead 5-4.

Mississinawa Valley then regained the lead with three runs in the fifth. Mechanicsburg scored one run in the bottom of the sixth and Mississinawa scored one in the top of the seventh to make it 8-6 in favor of MV. Mechanicsburg then scored three in the bottom of the seventh to win 9-8.

Mississinawa Valley had eight hits and six errors in game two. Mechanicsburg had nine hits and four errors.

Shimp was 2-for-3 with two runs. Johns went 2-for-4 with a RBI and a run. Colton Hines was 1-for-1, was hit by a pitch and scored a run.

Longfellow was 1-for-4 with a RBI and a run. Rust was 1-for-4 and drove in a run. Matthew Slob was 1-for-2. Cody Dirksen drove in a run. Collins, McGhee and Kyler Guillozet each scored a run.

Slob pitched 3 2/3 innings, allowing one earned run and four unearned runs on four hits, three walks and one strikeout. Guillozet allowed four earned runs on five hits, no walks and one strikeout in three innings.
