19 Edison State Community College student-athletes named to OCCAC all-academic team

PIQUA – Nineteen student-athletes from Edison State Community College have been named members of the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference all-academic team for spring 2017.

To qualify, a student-athlete must have completed at least 12 credit hours with a 3.30 GPA in the specific semester.

Among the academic honorees was Versailles graduate Lauren Monnin, a member of the Edison women’s basketball team.

“I’m always impressed to learn that our student-athletes have been excelling both on the court and in the classroom,” Edison State Athletic Director Nate Cole said. “This achievement speaks volumes about the type of student-athletes we have at Edison State and I applaud their efforts.”

Five members of the Edison State women’s volleyball team earned honors including Teresa Hess of Coldwater (4.0 GPA), Erin Metz of Jackson Center (4.0 GPA), Tasha Potts of Piqua (3.46 GPA), Denise Schwieterman of Coldwater (3.46 GPA) and Allison Watkins of Sidney (4.0 GPA).

Earning honors from the men’s basketball team are Zach Ledbetter of Vandalia (4.0 GPA), Nick Thompson of Tipp City (4.0 GPA), and Romello Yaqub of Troy (3.46 GPA).

Six of the women’s basketball team earned honors, including Carly Buzzard of Wapakoneta (3.75 GPA), Jessie Crowell of Covington (3.53 GPA), Riley Culver of Wapakoneta (3.30 GPA), Holly Frey of Fort Loramie (3.78 GPA), Sydney Miller of Huntsville (3.53 GPA) and Lauren Monnin of Versailles (3.35 GPA).

José Adorno of Puerto Rico (3.60 GPA), Andrew Collins of Huber Heights (4.0 GPA), and Nick Gray of Lewisburg (3.30 GPA), Tanner Lee of Dayton (3.46 GPA) and Roger Tisby of Chicago (3.80 GPA) represent the baseball team in academic excellence.

Edison State Community College is one of nine participating members of the OCCAC. The college also competes in Region XII as a Division II member of the National Junior College Athletic Association in men’s baseball, men and women’s basketball and women’s volleyball.
