BUTLER TOWNSHIP — An accident with injuries Tuesday afternoon left one driver transported with critical injuries.
At approximately 3:30 p.m., emergency personnel from New Madison Fire and Tri-Village Rescue along with deputies from the Darke County Sheriff’s Department were dispatched to the intersection of U.S. Route 127 and Grubbs-Rex Road in regards to an accident with injuries.
According to deputies on the scene, a white 2016 Buick Encore driven by Gail Farmer, 70, of New Madison, was traveling northbound on U.S. Route 127 when it stopped to oncoming traffic to attempt a turn onto westbound Grubbs-Rex Road. A white 2007 Dodge Ram 2500 flat bed truck driven by Dale Dennull, 56, of Eaton, also traveling northbound, failed to notice the stopped traffic and ran into the back of the Buick.
The force of the impact sent both vehicles off the right side of the roadway, just north of Grubbs-Rex Road, where the Buick came into contact with and broke a utility pole.
The female driver and lone occupant of the Buick was extricated from her vehicle by non-mechanical means before being treated on scene by Tri-Village Rescue and transported to Miami Valley Hospital. Med Flight initially was requested to the scene but due to a prolong estimated time of arrival and high winds the patient was transported by ground for what was described as critical injuries.
The driver of the Dodge Ram was uninjured in the accident and refused treatment on the scene.
The accident will remain under investigation by the Darke County Sheriff’s Department.
