GREENVILLE — The sweltering summer temperatures took a short break Wednesday morning at the Great Darke County Fair, with cloudy skies and a cool breeze, creating perfect weather for the Jr. Fair 4-H “Market Swine Sale,” which took place at 10 a.m.
Many buyers and supporters were in attendance to bid on the record 220 some hogs that had been shown by the 4-H youth. The Grand Champion Overall, shown by Madelyn Fearon, sold for an almost record price of $2,150.00 to a consortium of buyers led by Family Health, Ace Hardware, Flaig Lumber, VFW Post 4161 Arcanum, Dave Knapp Ford and many others.
Kaden Brandenburg of the Top Notch 4-H Club, had the Reserve Champion Born and Raised Hog, which sold to a group of buyers led by long time 4-H supporters Ted Finnarn Attorney and Darke County Farmers Union. The sale, which lasted over four and a half hours, finished just in time for the sun to come back out, bringing the “heat wave” back in the afternoon.
