Geology Discovery Day is March 25

CELINA – Calling all rock, mineral, and fossil enthusiasts! The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Geological Survey is inviting people of all ages to Geology Discovery Day on Saturday, March 25.

“Aspects of geology are ingrained in Ohio’s economy, culture, and heritage,” Division geologist and public information specialist Molly E. Hunt said. “We look forward to sharing our knowledge about Ohio geology at this special event.”

The Division of Geological Survey has partnered with several educational institutions to provide the ultimate geological experience- for free!

Geology Discovery Day will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 25, at Wright State University Lake Campus, Dicke Hall, 7600 Lake Campus Drive, Celina.

The event will include hands-on learning activities and giveaways, including maps and educational publications. ODNR geologists will be on site to provide rock, mineral, and fossil identification. In addition to the activity stations, visitors can deepen their knowledge of earth science by attending two special presentations geared for all ages:

Ohio Through Time with ODNR Geologist and Paleontologist Molly E. Hunt will take place at noon, and Paleontology Research Efforts of WSU with Professor Chuck Ciampaglio, Ph.D. will take place at 1 p.m.
