Now on display at the Arcanum Public Library is a vintage WWI Red Cross quilt. The quilt was recently found in the library and is now on display. The quilt has been framed by local company, The Frame Gallery, thanks to grants from the Darke County Endowment Foundation and the Trust of Dr. Samuel Brubaker. A Red Cross quilt consists of 258 squares including eight memorial blocks, four corner blocks, and five red blocks in the center forming a large red cross. The purpose of the Red Cross quilt as explained in the December 2017 “The Modern Priscilla” magazine was to raise funds for the war effort, specifically for medical supplies and equipment. Each quilt had the ability to raise $1,000. You should check out the century-old quilt to see if one of your ancestors contributed a block to the quilt! The APL is located at 101 West North Street, Arcanum.

Healthy Cooking classes will be held at the APL for 10 weeks on Thursdays from 1 to 2 p.m. Classes began on Sept. 12 and run to Nov. 14; you can still attend. Call the library at 937-692-8484 or drop in to add your name to the list to ensure they have adequate supplies for all participants. Patrons can sign up for individual classes, or for multiple classes.
