About Us

The Daily Advocate originally opened its doors on May 3, 1883, as The Democratic Advocate, which began as a traditional six-column, eight-page weekly publication founded by W. A. Browne, Sr.

In 1893, the publication changed to its current title, which indicates its ongoing editorial commitment to the everyday residents within its coverage area.

The Advocate remains the leading newspaper of Historic Darke County, circulating in Greenville, Ansonia, Arcanum, Bradford, New Madison, Union City and Versailles, Ohio and the surrounding Miami Valley region.

The Advocate is a daily newspaper, published Tuesday through Friday. It features a paid circulation not only in the surrounding area, but is also mailed all over the country to many relocated residents and family members.

The online publication, dailyadvocate.com, remains the leading source of news in Darke County, winning national awards like the 2011 Digital Journalism Award by the Inland Press Association and 2009 Associated Press Best Website Award.

Our news coverage spans local breaking news, state politics, ongoing municipal and county progress, regional workforce development and local county sports which include eight district high schools.
