Leaver Golf Benefit planned Saturday

GREENVILLE — The Larry Leaver Golf Benefit will be held Saturday, with proceeds to offset medical and funeral expenses.

The event will be held at 1 p.m. at White Springs Golf Course, Greenville. It will be a four-man, best ball golf tournament.

Cost is $50 per person/$200 per team. Mulligans may be purchased the day of the event.

Refreshments will be provided.

In September 2015, Leaver developed blood clots throughout his body. Treatment to dissolve these blood clots was ineffective. As a result, amputation of his left leg above the knee was necessary. Leaver had been diagnosed with arteriosclerosis and diabetes, diagnoses consistent with exposure to Agent Orange.

Leave proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Conflict, spending more than 11 months in country attached to the 57th Transportation Co.

Following his initial surgery, Leaver was hospitalized for nearly seven months. He underwent multiple surgeries to aid in the healing process. These surgeries were ineffective.

The extended hospitalization created a financial burden on the family.

He died March 19.
