March for Babies approaching

GREENVILLE — The Darke County March for Babies is slated for Saturday, rain or shine, at the Darke County Fairgrounds, 800 Sweitzer St. Greenville.

March for Babies is the solution to the problem of premature birth. It raises the funds that help pregnant women give their baby a fighting chance to be born full term and healthy. It funds the research that is finding the causes of preterm birth and bringing new treatments into hospitals and clinics. For people who want to know, “how can I help?” March for Babies is the answer.

The event begins at 8 a.m. with registration/donation drop-off, with the march starting at 9 a.m.

In an average year in Ohio, 140,000 babies are born – and 17,000 of them are born too soon. In Greenville and Darke County, one in nine babies are born prematurely and premature birth is the #1 killer of babies. Premature babies often spend their first weeks in the NICU fighting for life, and often have lasting consequences such as vision and hearing loss or learning disabilities. Pre-term birth is the leading cause of infant mortality and babies who survive an early birth face serious health challenges and are at risk for cerebral palsy, lung problems, vision and hearing problems and learning disabilities.

March of Dimes is the champion for all babies, those born healthy and those who need help to survive and thrive. Moms can rely on March of Dimes for everything they need to know about having a healthy baby and how to recognize the warning signs of premature labor.
