‘Nunsense’ at Memorial Hall

GREENVILLE — Towne & Country Players invites the public to join them as they welcome the ‘Little Sisters of Hoboken’ during the comedy “Nunsense” to Greenville’s Memorial Hall. This production was recently presented at the Versailles Performing Arts Center in June.

This marks the production’s 30th anniversary of its off Broadway opening premier. Presented through the courtesy of Samuel French Inc., this show is only second to “The Fantasiks” in longevity off Broadway.

It’s rare that such a small cast in a musical can hold captive an audience like this show. From slapstick humor and silly songs; to tap dancing, ballet and a poignant ballad or two, this musical has it all.

Terry Cassel, a Greenville native, is the show’s pianist and in charge of the small band that gives life and a beat to this musical.

The direction team of Jim Kelch and Phyllis Corbin come out of retirement to give their special touch to the show, along with new comer to the directorial team is Chad Peyton, who brings an insight in his first time in a directorial role. This team is complimented by veteran producer, Angie DeMange.

The artistry doesn’t end there as veteran local choreographer, Lynn Blakeley, and a team of helpers including Abigail White, Bailey DeMange and Heidi DeMange make dance look effortless. Set and lighting design for the production are in the capable hands of Greenville native, Ron Asman.

With all of this going on behind the scenes, the front of the stage is filled by the talents of Towne & Country Players veterans and local favorites, Lois Knapke and Kim Borchers. They are joined by Erin (Brown) McKibbin, who has practically grown up on area stages as well as recent newcomer, Heidi DeMange in her fourth production. Chelsea Leis, a former Greenville Wavaire and recent musical major graduate, complements the talented ensemble.

Tickets are currently on sale by calling 937-689-6111. The Oct. 8 only performance (8 p.m.) is in the restored Memorial Hall, home to the Darke County Center for the Arts. All seats are reserved.

“Come and spend an evening with our Nuns, we’re sure you’ll have a hilarious time,” said organizers.
