Edison 5K to aid local man

PIQUA — Edison State Community College’s 5K for a Cause will be held on Saturday, Oct. 29, 2016, at the Piqua campus. The race is held annually to benefit community members in need. This year’s race will benefit Seth Bishop, of Sidney, to aid in his fight against cancer.

Diagnosed with testicular cancer in June, Bishop’s cancer has spread to his lymph nodes and lungs. Seth is a 2015 graduate of Fairlawn High School in Sidney, where he was active in baseball and basketball. In his free time, Seth enjoys playing PlayStation and Xbox.

“Seth has been so very strong not only mentally, but physically as well,” said Sue Bishop, Seth’s mother. “I am overwhelmed by all of the support that we have received from Shelby County and the surrounding area.

“So many people have reached out and sent cards of encouragement and hope that Seth will win this battle. This race is another kind offering of support for Seth.”

Registration for the 5K begins at 8 a.m., followed by the official start of the race 9 a.m. Beginning on the east end of Edison State’s Piqua Campus, the race is an out-and-back course, and is run entirely on pavement.

Those interested in participating can pre-register for the event online now through Oct. 27 at www.edisonohio.edu/5k. Entry fees are $20 for pre-registered participants and $25 for race day registrations. Pre-registered participants will receive a free t-shirt. Additional shirts will be sold for $5 on race day.

Proceeds will help offset costs associated with Bishop’s cancer treatments.
