Have you seen the blue and also white violets which are abundant in Ivester Park? We have such a nice village park especially along the north edge along with other wildflowers. There are also pretty light blue flowers blooming along the creek bank which makes such a pretty picture. It is such a gorgeous time of year to get out and enjoy the sunshine and all the newness of Spring! Thank you to our predecessors who envisioned and made Ivestor Park a part of Arcanum!

Don’t forget this Saturday is the kickoff for the Arcanum Wayne Trail Historical Society Spring Tour. This Self-Guided Historic Driving Tour of Old One and Two Room School Houses in Twin and Van Buren Township in Darke County. Brochures can be downloaded from the web site www.arcanumhistoricalsociety.org or picked up at AWTHS and selected Arcanum and Greenville locations. The kick off will be Saturday, May 6 from 9 a.m. to noon at AWTHS, 123 W. George in Arcanum. Details and information are available on-site. Participate and learn about early education. Most properties are private and not open to the public.

On Saturday, May 6 from 12 Noon to 2 p.m. you might want to stop by Immanuel Baptist Church (IBC) at 500 West South Street for a free car wash! Does your vehicle need a little TLC (tender-loving-care)? Hopefully they can help put the shine back on your vehicle and a little pep in your step by offering any member of the community a free car wash – absolutely free, no donation will be received. The IBC Family wants to serve you by bringing back the shine to your vehicle and a smile to your face.

Arcanum’s Old Fashioned Days (OFD) is coming May 19, 20 and 21! At OFD this year, there will be a different ride company, Cromer Amusements, a family-owned company out of Eaton. They have some of the “classic” family rides and their workers are known for their friendliness. They will be bringing a variety of rides and games this year. Out of the 15 rides they plan to bring, eight will be for the smaller children and seven will be for the older children/teenagers/adults. This will provide some fun and excitement for all ages.

Pre-sale tickets and armbands are now available at the following locations in town: Ben Franklin, Sutton’s, Belle Fiole Tanning & Spa, Greenville National Bank, Second National Bank and Millers Tavern. Pre-sale tickets are $15 for 24 (a savings of $5). Pre-sale armbands are also $15 (a savings of $5). The armbands can be used for one of three different time periods: Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. or Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will also be a “Kiddie-Ride-Only” armband available for purchase at OFD on Sunday, May 21 for $10 that can only be used that day from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Additionally, when you purchase pre-sale tickets or armbands, you will be entered in a drawing to win one of four gift cards. One gift card will be given away each Saturday leading up to OFD (Apr 29, May 6 and May 13) and the final card will be drawn on Thursday, May 18. The gift cards are $10 Suttons, $20 Dollar General, $25 Regal Cinemas and $25 AMC Theaters.

In addition to the DockDogs competition coming this year, they will be for viewing only and not for interaction with the animals. Organizers of OFD are also bringing the Jungle Island Zoo Petting Zoo and Pony Rides. This will satisfy your craving to get up close with a variety of animals to see and pet. There will also be pony rides available for an additional fee.

Arcanum’s OFD Parade is fast approaching and if you want to enter into the parade for this event on May 20, please contact Kurt Troutwine at 937-692-8310. It’s looking like an exciting event!
