Feline Friday Adoptable ‘Cool Cats’

DARKE COUNTY — “Cool cats,” both full grown and kittens, are just waiting to be adopted into loving homes, and are available now at the Darke County Humane Society, located at 7053 OH-49, in Greenville.

One “cool cat” fact is that an estimated 500,000 cats served in World War I. The trenches on the Western Front had serious rat infestations. Due to food supplies and the increased number of casualties, the rat population became quickly out of control. Because soldiers were stuck in trenches, they often killed rats with their bayonets. Cats were deployed to keep the rats at bay. In addition, because cats were also exceptional at detecting gas, the British army “drafted” 500 of them to assist in missions.

Adah, a one-year-old American shorthair, is an affectionate “cool cat” who enjoys meeting new friends and playing with new, interesting cat toys.

Come out to the Darke County Humane Society and meet Adah and other fabulous felines! Shelter hours are: Monday (11 a.m. to 5 p.m.), Tuesday (11 a.m. to 5 p.m.) Wednesday. (11 a.m. to 5 p.m.), Friday (11 a.m. to 5 p.m.), Saturday (11 a.m. to 4 p.m.). The Darke County Humane Society also offers a low cost Feline Spay and Neuter Clinic once a month.
