ARCANUM — Arcanum Village Council returned Monte Clark to the president pro tem position during the organizational meeting preceding the special council meeting Tuesday evening.

The special council meeting was called to pay the last of the bills to close out 2015.

Mayor Judith Foureman also raised the question of seeking a new solicitor for the village, as the current solicitor, Nicole Pohlman, reported she will be resigning from her law firm, Goubeaux & Brand.

Foureman told council that the village is in its second year of a two-year contract with the solicitor, but because Pohlman is leaving the firm, that contract will no longer be in force, and the village will be free to seek a new solicitor.

Council reviewed submitted letters for the open seat on council. Vanessa Delk, who submitted a petition for reelection that was rejected by the Board of Elections, expressed an interest in retaining the seat, which council acknowledged in lieu of a letter of interest.

Bill Sinnes, village administrator, reported wind damage from the recent storms would amount to less than the cost of the insurance deductible at a little over $1,300.

The next meeting will be Tuesday, Jan. 12, at 7 p.m., which is the regularly scheduled date and time.
