ARCANUM — Arcanum Village Council went into executive session following the regular council meeting Tuesday to interview for the open seat on council.

The seat was left open by Vanessa Delk, who intended to run for reelection but had her petition rejected by the Board of Elections. Delk expressed interest in returning to the seat and is being considered along with those who submitted letters of interest.

Council President Monte Clark reported that he expected to have the committee assignments completed by Wednesday, to be presented at the next regular meeting.

Mayor Judith Foureman asked council to consider granting an exception delaying utility cutoff at a residence of a recently deceased person. Council agreed to postpone the electric shutoff to allow for settlement of the estate.

Council also authorized a 50-cent per hour pay increase for an electric lineman apprentice who has been working for one year now. The raise was made retroactive because his original hiring agreement called for a 50-cent increase after six months.

The mayor explained a proposal for a five-year agreement for salt delivery that would include tank cleaning for the brine tanks at the water plant. Legislation will be prepared for the next meeting.

Legislation also will be considered at the next meeting for the purchase of water meters.

Village Administrator Bill Sinnes reported there is a leak in a water line somewhere, so testing will have to be done after the weather breaks.

Fiscal Clerk Darcy Woodall reported that fiscal year 2015 had not yet been closed out because she ran into a couple of problems, but that I should be completed within a couple of days.

Woodall also passed out literature on a credit card processor that would enable the village to accept credit card payments for utility and tax bills at no cost to the village. The fees would be passed directly on to the customer.
