GREENVILLE — A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held Wednesday to mark the official opening of Reid Hospital & Healthcare Services’ Medical Office Building in Greenville.

The new facility, located at 1101 Jackson Street, was built at a cost of $11 million. It hosts a number of medical specialists.

Jim Hayes, executive director of Reid Physicians Associates, called the building’s opening “wonderful.”

“Greenville is a great community,” he said. “We are very happy to be a part of it.”

Hayes noted that Reid has made a concentrated effort to hire people from the area.

“Health care is a community thing, creating relationships,” he said. “When patients walk in, it’s important that they see people they know.”

Dr. Henry Chong, a longtime Greenville cardiologist, called the facility’s official opening a “great day.”

“Greenville has always had a nice group of outstanding primary care physicians,” he remarked, “but I feel we needed more specialists.”

Chong added, “This building is modern, up to date — it’s on par with anyone else, anywhere else. This gives us the opportunity to have a centralized building where we can host sub specialties that have not been well represented in this area and do so in an attractive setting. I think it will be an asset to the community.”

Many area government and business leaders were on hand to welcome the administrators and employees assembled at the front of the building.

Greenville Mayor Mike Bowers told the group, “I’m very thankful that Reid has chosen Greenville, Ohio. The quality of medical services that we offer our citizens is unparalleled for a community our size.”

Mike Stegall, Darke County Commissioner, added, “We’re glad you’re here. We know you’re going to provide a service that our area needs.”

Darke County Chamber of Commerce President Sharon Deschambeau expressed her appreciation to the Reid staff and administration, calling Reid’s community relations and marketing people “great to work with.”

Deschambeau recalled when the project was first a concept, driving to the construction site before the ground breaking in March 2014.

“Claudia Anderson, Larry Price and Jeff Cook laid out the plans, showing me the schematics and drawings,” she said. “When we drove out here, there was just a sign. We walked through two or three feet of snow and I took a photograph of them in front of the sign. It’s great to see the completed project on a beautiful day like today.”

Following the ribbon cutting, visitors were offered refreshments and were invited to tour the facility.

The Reid Medical Office Building houses Bethel Cardiology; Reid Orthopedics; Reid ENT; Reid Neurology Associates; Richmond Rheumatology Center; Reid Psychiatric Associates; and Urological Care.

Other health care specialists may be added in the future.

The main campus of Reid Hospital & Healthcare Services is based in Richmond, Indiana. The hospital’s website is www.reidhospital.org.
