Husted, DeWine hold $1M each as ‘18 Ohio governor race looms

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) – Campaign finances reports show two statewide Republican officeholders positioning for gubernatorial runs used 2015 to sock away significant piles of cash.

Filings on Friday show Secretary of State Jon Husted (HYOO’-sted) has almost $1.2 million on hand, and Attorney General Mike DeWine has close to $1.1 million. Lt. Gov. Mary Taylor, who’s also considering a run, wasn’t required to file a similar report.

GOP Auditor Dave Yost, a potential attorney general candidate, reported having $423,000 in the bank.

Republican Treasurer Josh Mandel (man-DELL’) raised just $11,000 for his state campaign account. That signals he may have his sights set on another U.S. Senate run, not a different state office.

Republican Gov. John Kasich’s gubernatorial campaign committee is ostensibly dormant as he runs for president. It’s raised about $28,000 since summer.
