ARCANUM — Summer is in full swing at the Arcanum Public Library. Kids and adults alike have had numerous activities to enjoy, with the promise of more to come.

Registration is still open for the Summer Reading Program. The theme this year is “Every Hero Has a Story,” learning all about everyday heroes, Ohio heroes, superheroes, and how each person can become a hero.

Four more storytime days are planned through the end of summer for kids up to preschool age to come listen to stories, make a craft and sing songs. On Monday, June 29, July 6, and July 20 there will be two sessions each day, at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. On July 13, there will be only one session, at 10 a.m. There will be a special guest that day for the kids to meet. Pick up a calendar of the Summer Storytime Schedule at the library.

On Tuesdays, the library has been holding Heroes In Training (H.I.T.) lessons for kids from kindergarten age and up. The sessions begin at 10 a.m. and last about an hour. There are crafts, games and activities with a hero theme. There are four sessions left for the summer, June 30, July 7, 14 and 21.

Three movie dates are left for the summer, with two movies each day, the first at 10 a.m. and the second at 2 p.m. Popcorn is served at all showings. July 1, the first movie will be “Balto,” and the second will be “Thor.” July 15, the first movie will be “The Incredible Mr. Limpet,” and the second will be “Iron Man II.” On July 22, the first movie will be “The Rescuers,” and the second will be “The Avengers.”

Other programs planned include the following:

July 8: the Southwestern Ohio Search and Rescue group will be at the library at 10 a.m. to present a few of their rescue dogs and answer questions about what they do. This event is for all ages.

July 9: card game day. This drop-in event will run from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.

July 16: annual drop-in craft day. Supplies for crafts will be set up from 10 a.m. until 6:30 p.m. Come and make several crafts to take home.

July 23: local heroes. Firemen, policemen, rescue workers and more will be here for visitors. Times to be announced.
