DARKE COUNTY — In dire need of some additional “elbow room,” the office of the Darke County Solid Waste District (DCSWD) has moved to a new location.
Director Krista Fourman said the new office, located in Suite C at 684 Wagner Avenue in Greenville, offers much more space than the agency’s previous office at Darke County Job and Family Services, also on Wagner Avenue.
“We’re excited to be in a new location with more space,” she said. “The additional space also helps us with the possibility of adding new programs.”
The new accommodations, south of Greenville Federal Bank, include a more spacious reception area, a conference area, a kitchenette and a garage. She and Administrative Assistant Melissa Werling transitioned to the new digs beginning March 9.
Fourman explained that in their previous office, it was difficult for the agency to collect certain recyclable items, such as batteries, due to safety concerns and the proximity of other county offices within the building.
“The district office was only supposed to be at Job and Family Services for one year,” she explained. “That turned into five years.”
The new office, in a building shared with Edward Jones Financial Advisors and Sidney Dental Associates, is owned by Geoff Surber. Fourman says the county has signed a five-year lease with Surber for the space with the option to renew.
The move allows Fourman to consolidate the agency’s belongings and to do so in a more cost-effective manner. Before, DCSWD had materials stored in multiple locations throughout the county.
“I really want to thank the Darke County Commissioners for allowing us to make this move, and also Geoff Surber” she said.
DCSWD’s goal is to promote recycling, waste reduction and responsible disposal of all waste from households, businesses and industry in the county.
Among upcoming DCSWD events is Appliance Recycling Day, held April 2 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Darke County Fairgrounds. Items accepted include: refrigerators, washers, dryers, dishwashers, air conditioners, stoves, dehumidifiers, freezers, and furnaces. All freon and recycling will be done free of charge for any Darke County resident.
The district’s Electronics Recycling Day will be held May 26. Pre-registration is required for this event. Forms will be available online beginning April 1.
DCSWD’s third annual Shred Day is scheduled for June 11. No pre-registration is required for this event.
