Man killed in hit-skip accident

WINCHESTER, Ind. – A Ridgeville man riding a motorcycle was killed Saturday in a hit-skip accident.

On April 16 at 9:47 p.m. Randolph County Deputies responded to a fatality accident at the intersection of State Road 28 and County Road 100 West, also on the scene Ward township and Ridgeville first responders, Randolph County EMS and State officers for accident reconstruction, Union City officers assisted in road closures.

The preliminary investigation indicated Dion L. Young, 45, of Ridgeville, Indiana was operating a 1997 Harley Davidson motorcycle as he and his passenger, Waynega R. Whited, 40, approached the intersection of County Road 100 West as a pickup truck traveling north on County Road 100 West failed to yield the right of way.

The motorcycle operated by Young struck the pickup truck on the front left corner doing damage to the headlight assembly and grill area of the truck, the truck then fled the scene of the accident.

On Sunday, April 17, Randolph County Dispatch located and questioned the driver, William E. Caylor, of a Ford truck after receiving information through social media about a truck with recent significant driver side front end damage. It was reported to be parked in the 600 Block of E. North Street Winchester, Indiana. During police questioning, Caylor admitted he was the driver involved in the accident.

Caylor was arrested and taken to the Randolph County Jail and is being held for leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death, a level 6 felony with an $8,000 bond.

Young was pronounced dead on the scene by the Randolph County Coroner. Whited was transported to Ball Memorial Hospital in stable, but serious condition.

Young and Whited had not been wearing helmets at the time of the accident.
