ROSSBURG — Quilts the Third Thursday Quilters have made are headed for the VA Hospital in Dayton.

The quilters, who meet monthly at the Rossburg United Methodist Church, have opted to let veterans have the lap quilts they made with their own hands. So, Dennis Dickey of the Third District American Legion is planning on delivering them on Memorial Day weekend.

“I had seen an article in one of my husband Bill’s magazine, maybe it was the DAV,” said Linda Brown. “It was about a lady who was in a quilt club that made quilts for the local VA. I suggested we do this.”

Her co-horts in the Third Thursday Quilters agreed, and the project was on for the crew.

The quilts, mainly using the patriotic theme, also included other patterns the quilter chose to do.

The Third Thursday Quilters have been gathering for 16 years having been formed by sisters Leona Sheets and [the late] Sarah Hohlbein.

At their meetings the members discuss such things as techniques and they have exchanges blocks of fabric. The quilts are made in members’ respective homes.

Members of the club, in addition to Brown and Sheets, are Mary Fields, Judy Rhynard, Charlotte Threewits, Bev Stump, Eloise Kissinger, Pat Lee, Linette Lee, Kelly Sanning and Linda Pike.
