Pets rescued from house fire

ANSONIA – Multiple fire crews worked to contain a house fire on Thursday morning around 6:30 a.m. in the 600 block of West Weller Street.

Firefighters said flames were visible from an upstairs window. After a call for mutual aid, fire crews from six surrounding villages responded within 15 minutes to help battle the blaze.

“A small village like Ansonia you have agreements with other villages, and it’s a blessing,” Ansonia Fire Captain Paul McCleskey said.

According to McCleskey — no one was inside the home at the time of the fire. Fire crews were able to rescue two cats and one dog.

The fire was contained to the upstairs bedroom where the flames were seen. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
