VERSAILLES — Summertime readers in Versailles will have more pages to turn thanks to a grant from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation.

The foundation has awarded Worch Memorial Public Library a literacy grant in the amount of $2,000. This local grant award is part of more than $7.1 million in grants given to more than 900 schools, nonprofits and organizations across the 43 states the company serves.

“Consistent with our mission of serving others, we are excited to provide these organizations with funding to further literacy and education across the communities we call home,” said Todd Vasos, Dollar General’s CEO. “It is always so exciting to see the true and meaningful impact the Dollar General Literacy Foundation has on both children and adults looking to improve their lives through literacy.”

Recipients of the grants use the funds to support programs aimed at enhancing summer, family and adult literacy programs. Grants will be used to help promote childhood summer reading or help adults learn to read, prepare for the high school equivalency exam or learn English.

Worch Library Director Meme Marlow said, “First I would like to thank Dollar General for their support. We have gotten a summer reading grant from them for the last few years and it has been a real benefit to the library. In the past, we have used the funds to support the programs held at the library during the summer. In addition, these funds purchased several sets of books that relate to the summer reading theme. The funds will be used the same this year.”

“These funds are a real asset to the library, as our budget has been cut drastically over the years. They allow the library to purchase sets or groups of books relating specifically to the summer theme,” she added.
