BRADFORD — The village council held their first meeting of the month Thursday evening. In attendance was the entire council, village administrator, clerk, two sheriff deputies, an engineer and two community members.

The sheriff’s office has completed the spring vehicle clean-up. There were 25 cars in violation; 23 are now in compliance and 2 have been cited. They also looked into a couple of animal complaints.

Village Administrator Rick Looker shared proposals for a new security cameras. The highest was for 24 cameras around the city building and park at $25,000. The lowest package included eight cameras for $13,142. The sheriff’s department would be able to view cameras from their vehicles or from their office in the city building. Mid-range pricing included up to five people at a time logged into the cameras.

Deb Warner asked where the money would come from for the new system and Looker said from the general fund. Desi Layman wondered if anyone else we knew of have used this company and systems. The deputy stated that the Miami County Sheriff’s office has used the same company to install theirs. One option provided was digital cameras. With the digital cameras, they would be able to zoom up with great clarity to see more detail. There has been damage to the park restrooms, including baby changing stations ripped from the walls, fires started in the bathrooms, and needles have been found in the drains.

Jeff Wirrig asked Looker to set up an appointment with the security company so that council could see and learn more about the different options. Bob Daugherty wondered if there were grants the village could apply for to help with costs of the project.

Brice Schmitmeyer, PE, from Access Engineering Solutions, reviewed bids for upcoming projects. Schmitmeyer recommended Shinn Brothers, Inc. for upcoming projects for Grandview Drive and the water treatment plant. Warner made a motion to have Looker sign a contract with Shinn Brothers, Inc. Daugherty seconded the motion and it was passed and carried.

A motion was also passed a carried to sign into contract with PAB Construction for the Wise Street Project.

Schmitmeyer recommended that Bradford take a look at water overage rates and to consider raising them. He said that Bradford is quite low compared to other towns. There was also discussion on the need to raise water and sewage rates. They are considering a $5 increase, but were unsure whether to do it all at once or step the rate increase. Council decided to review the possibilities until the next meeting.

Mayor Don Stump attended the Dining By Rails for the Railroad Museum. He said that announced that the museum will be receiving a $75,000 grant to continue plans for the Railroad Museum.

Council chose July 30 as the date for Movie in Park. Looker will try and reserve the movie.

The next village council meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 26.
