MILAN, Ohio (AP) — Thomas Edison will have a police escort past his Ohio birthplace.

A 900-pound bronze statue of the prolific inventor is due to arrive Tuesday in his hometown, where it will spend the summer on display before going to its permanent home in the U.S. Capitol.

The nearly 7-foot statue showing Edison holding a light bulb will go into the public library in Milan (MY’-lan), where Edison spent the first seven years of his life.

The statue will have a police, sheriff and fire truck escort through the village Tuesday.

It will stay through the summer before joining the historic figures at Statuary Hall in Washington.

Each state can display two notable figures at Statuary Hall. Edison will replace a statue of a former Ohio governor who supported southern slave owners.
