Injuries result from Monday crashes

DARKE COUNTY — Injuries resulted from two separate rear-end crashes that occurred Monday afternoon.

Sophia R. Dunn, 18, of Greenville, was cited for an assured clear distance ahead violation after rear-ending another vehicle Monday at 5:09 p.m.

According to the Darke County Sheriff’s Office crash report, James E. Hardin, 50, of Lima, was stopped southbound on US 127 waiting for a car ahead of him to turn left onto State Route 185 when Dunn failed to stop in time and struck his vehicle from behind.

Dunn, who was driving a 2000 Saturn V6, was transported by Ansonia Rescue to Wayne HealthCare for non-incapacitating injuries. According to the crash report, she was not wearing a seatbelt, and her front airbag deployed. Dunn was reportedly distracted by something unspecified in the vehicle. Her speed was listed as 58 mph in the 55 mph zone at the time of the crash.

Hardin was driving a Ford E-350 van for Watch TV. He was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and was checked and treated at the scene.

Both vehicles were heavily damaged in the collision.

In the second crash, Jill E. Diers, 58, of Pleasant Hill, was eastbound on US 36 when she struck the rear of the vehicle driven by Arlene M. Binkley, 54, of Bradford, who had slowed to turn left into the parking lot of The Flour Barrel.

Diers was driving a 2006 Kia Sportage and was reportedly wearing a seatbelt. She was not injured.

Binkley was driving a 2008 Ford Escape. She also was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. She was transported by Gettysburg Rescue to Wayne HealthCare with possible injuries.

Both vehicles sustained functional damage.
