DARKE COUNTY — A Kentucky man was seriously injured Monday afternoon after being struck by an SUV after entering its path across State Route 118.

On June 27 at 2:06 p.m., Darke County Sheriff’s Office Deputies along with Greenville Township Rescue, Greenville Township Fire, Careflight and mutual aid from Ansonia Rescue were dispatched to the intersection of State Route 118 and Horatio Harris-Creek Road in reference to the two-vehicle accident.

The preliminary investigation revealed a blue 2012 Toyota Prius driven by Zachary W. Musick, 31, Ashland, Kentucky, was westbound on Horatio Harris-Creek Road and stopped at the posted stop sign at 118. Musick proceeded to cross 118 and was struck by a northbound red 2009 Ford Explorer driven by Debra J. Weist, 58, Rossburg, Ohio, who had the right of way.

Both Musick’s and Weist’s vehicles went off the west side of 118. The Weist vehicle overturned onto its side in the ditch. Weist was trapped in the vehicle for a short time. Musick’s vehicle came to rest in a corn field.

Musick was transported to Miami Valley Hospital by Careflight and is listed in stable condition. Weist was transferred to Wayne Healthcare, her condition is unknown at this time.

At 2:11 p.m., a report of another two-vehicle accident at this same location came in.

The investigation revealed a westbound 2013 blue Toyota Prius driven by Joseph Franklin 26, Ft. Wayne, Indiana, was westbound on Horatio Harris Creek Road. Franklin drove around a semi tractor and trailer that was stopped on the road for the prior accident. Franklin proceeded across the intersection of 118 and was struck by a northbound semi tractor and trailer driven by Derrick Gump 28, Greenville, who had the right of way.

No injuries were report in this accident.
