No lawn chairs allowed by Grandstand until Friday

GREENVILLE — Fair-goers will not be able to bring their lawn chairs and place them underneath the Grandstand at the Great Darke County Fair until this coming Friday after 8 a.m., a week before the opening of the nine-day event.

“No chairs will be permitted to be placed on the fairgrounds until even days prior to the start of the annual fair,” said Fair Manager Daryl Riffle.

He said the signage was approved by the fair board in April to implement then for safety and unrestricted pre-fair preparation. The signs have been installed and are in place.

“People usually come in with their chairs in late July and set them up and that has grown.” he said.

With chairs there, he explained, it has become more difficult with safety issues involved not to mention getting finalized on the grounds.

“We’re not discouraging anyone at all from bringing in their chairs; we’re just asking them to do it after 8 a.m. Friday,” he said. “If not, the chairs will be confiscated.”

He said, so far, people have been honoring that policy.

“We have been running it on our website,” Riffle said.
