GREENVILLE — The new Dollar Tree store officially opened Thursday morning with a corporate ribbon-cutting ceremony at its location, 1555 Wagner Ave.

The store actually opened the previous Thursday, said Manager Emma Flory.

Working with Flory are full-time Assistant Managers Mary Arnett and Debbie Smith, with a total of 14 employees at the store, most of them part-time.

“We brought six employees over from the other store and another one retired,” the manager said.

“Everyone missed us,” said Assistant Manager Arnett.

“We have all been hugged so many times,” remarked Jenny Hayes, one of the employees. “We’re more personable with people. They’re glad we’re back. I never realized how many people had shopped here.”

The former Dollar Tree store, located at 1345 Wagner Ave., actually closed on Feb. 28 this year. It had been in Greenville 28 years, according to Flory.

“In our new store, we are carrying a lot more brand names,” Flory said. “It’s definitely bigger, 10,000 square feet. We have a lot more selections to choose from. We are doubling our products at least.”

Also featured at the store is an all new frozen food/dairy section in the back, which includes a variety of meat. There is also a wide assortment of food, with Lays Chips as one of the vendors.

According to Flory , the store is under full security, complete with cameras.

Management, for the next three weekends, will give away baskets, host a coloring contest, have balloon making and plans to bring in a popcorn machine.

“We made $34,000 in our first four days since opening,” said Arnett.

“Everything in here is a $1 or under,” noted Flory, who has worked for Dollar Tree for six years.

The store is open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sundays.
