RUSSIA — A Sunday early morning fire damaged a building that was constructed in the early 1890s.

The Russia Inn, 101 E. Main St., sustained extensive damage in the kitchen of the restaurant. The reminder of the building, said Russia Fire Chief Mark Chappie, sustained water and smoke damage.

According to Chappie, the department was dispatched to the fire around 1:30 a.m. Sunday morning. The department received mutual aid from Versailles and Houston Fire Departments. The Sidney Fire department’s Investigative Unit was also dispatched to the scene. The Versailles Life Squad was also at the scene.

Chappie said they were on the scene from 1:3o until 6 a.m. Sunday. There were no injuries.

Chappie said he thought the owner will repair the damage so the restaurant could reopen in the future.

The cause of the fire is undetermined but Chappie said it was accidental and it was not weather-related.
