DARKE COUNTY —A Verona man was airlifted Sunday morning after he took a single gunshot to his leg.

At 3:45 a.m., the Darke County 911 Center received a 911 call in reference to a man with a gunshot wound to his leg at the 3600 block of U.S. Route 127 South. Darke County Sheriff’s deputies and investigative division along with New Madison Fire Department and Tri-Village Rescue responded to the scene.

Tyler L. Minton, 29, of Verona, Ohio, sustained the gunshot wound to his right thigh. Minton was treated at the scene for his injury and airlifted by CareFlight to Miami Valley Hospital for further treatment. At that time, his condition was listed as stable. Minton was discharged from Miami Valley Hospital later that day.

Based upon multiple witness statements and the physical evidence at the scene, the investigation revealed the injury appeared to be the result of an accidental discharge by the victim with his own firearm. Alcohol can not be ruled out as a factor.

This incident remains under investigation by the Darke County Sheriff’s Office.
