DARKE COUNTY — The Directors for the Darke County Agricultural Society announced that Robert Johnston has been hired as the new head caretaker of the Darke County Fairgrounds.

Johnston replaces Ken Coates, who retired after serving as head caretaker since 2008.

Johnston is a native of New Jersey. His professional background includes six years with the New Jersey Department of Transportation and 26 years of general laborer and management responsibilities in the Fort Meyers, Florida, area. Johnston and his wife of six years, Karen, moved to the Darke County area in early 2015. Johnston brings a vast amount of supervisory, maintenance, landscape, turf, tree and weed management skills to the Great Darke County Fairgrounds.

The Board of Directors selected Johnston from a group of several applicants and the Board may also utilize the remaining applications to secure an assistant caretaker in the near future. Johnston’s first day of work was November 21.
