DARKE COUNTY — The Darke County Coroner was summoned to the scene of a fatal car crash east of Greenville early Friday morning.

At approximately 6:31 a.m., Darke County Deputies along with Gettysburg Fire and Rescue, responded to the intersection of U.S. Route 36 and Stahl Road for a serious one vehicle accident.

Investigation revealed Joyce Hinkle, 64, of Gettysburg, Ohio, was driving a red 1997 Ford Escort westbound on U.S. 36 and traveled off the right side of the roadway. Her vehicle then collided with a utility pole at the intersection of Stahl Road.

Hinkle was pronounced dead at the scene. Deputies reported she was wearing a seat belt. A medical issue may have been a contributing factor in this crash.

Miami Valley Hospital’s CareFlight chopper was reportedly called to the scene but then cancelled.

This marks the eighth fatal car accident in Darke County in 2016.

In addition to the coroner, the Darke County Sheriff’s Office Accident Reconstruction Team was called to the scene for further investigation. This accident remains under investigation by the Darke County Sheriff’s Office.
