GREENVILLE — Current and former customers of Second National Bank (SNB), as well as the general public, were invited to send Steve Badgett off into retirement recently at the main office.

He officially retired on New Year’s Eve as executive vice president and senior commercial lender after nearly 33 years of service to the organization.

Badgett started his banking career in 1974.

He was born in Coldwater and married his wife, Mary Ann (Stammen) Badgett 38 years ago. They had met while working at the bank in Coldwater.

The son of Louis and Anna (Russell) Badgett, he began his career at SNB in 1984 as the branch manager of SNB’s Fort Recovery office and transferred in 2003 to the main office in Greenville. He joined the SNB board of directors in March 2015 and has been secretary to the board for the past seven years and will continue his position as a member of the SNB board.

In Greenville, he began as a commercial lender, then was an ag lender, a senior vice president and executive vice president.

He had only worked under two CEO/executive officers…Marvin Stammen, his brother-in-law, and the current one, John Swallow.

“Marvin worked for Second National Bank for 25 years,” Badgett said.

Badgett has been an active member of the Fort Recovery and Mercer County community through his association with the local Chamber, the Industrial Park, the Lion’s Club, church finance committee member, and as a volunteer member of Ambassador Park.

He serves on the board of the Darke County Chamber of Commerce and is a member of the Chamber’s legislative committee. Badgett said he also serves as a member of the board of governors and finance committee of the Mercer Health Hospital in Coldwater.

He and his wife live in the Fort Recovery where they own and operate a contract poultry layer operation through Cooper’s.

“She manages the enterprise,” he said. “We had had that for 30 years and will continue to do that.”

He said, in retirement, they plan to do a little traveling and some volunteering.

“We also want to spend more time with the family…with my siblings,” he said. “There are seven of us altogether.”

He may even have time for some of his hobbies.

“I’m fairly handy,” he said. “I’ve fixed properties up on or own and and I like to do things Mary Ann and I can do together, like walking and riding bicycles. And, I would like to get back into hunting and fishing. I didn’t have any opportunities to hunt and fish when I was working.”

How did he enjoy his banking career?

“I loved working here [at Second National],” he said. “This is a wonderful group of people in all levels of the bank. We’re a community bank and interested in our customers being successful. We work with them to do that.”
