Brothers have violent domestic dispute

BRADFORD — A violent domestic dispute between brothers led to injuries and charges Tuesday.

Deputies were called to 130 West Smithfield Road in the village around 10:16 p.m. on the report of a domestic dispute.

They arrived on the scene to find Ron McFarland, 41, sitting on his front porch with a bandage around his knee. He told deputies that he had been involved in a verbal altercation with his brother Anthony, 40, but could not recall what it was about.

Ron stated that he had been on his back patio drinking with his brother when Anthony began hitting him with glass beer bottles. Anthony then allegedly left the residence and walked across the street to his camper. He returned a short time later carrying a hammer. Ron then said that Anthony broke out a window before coming back into the home. Ron said that he armed himself with a handgun in order to defend himself. Anthony then left again, out the back door.

Deputies “observed blood all over the kitchen area of the house and the back door area.” Outside the residence was broken glass from beer bottles and a broken cell phone.

Ron refused treatment for his injuries from Bradford EMS, but was later taken by family members to Wilson Hospital for treatment of his injuries.

Deputies from Miami and Darke County followed blood trails and searched for more than an hour for Anthony, but were unable to locate him.

Anthony McFarland will face a charge of domestic violence.
