GREENVILLE — After four years as executive director, Amber Garrett announced she is leaving Main Street Greenville.

In her letter to the board of directors, Garrett said she is resigning in order to pursue “new challenges and opportunities.”

“I have a mix of emotions as I move into this next chapter of my career, as the work of the organization has become and will continue to be so very important to me,” she said.

Garrett was named executive director in 2013. Her last day will be May 26.

Main Street Greenville Board President Peggy Schultz, citing Garrett’s “dedication, passion, enthusiasm and motivation,” said it was with a “mix of sadness and gratitude” that the board announced Garrett’s departure.

“Since 2013, Amber has played a critical role in the development and success of the organization, and while we will miss her and her inspiring leadership, we wish her the best of luck in her new endeavor,” she said.

“We want to thank her for the four years of dedicated service which involved many significant accomplishments,” Schultz added.

Schultz said the board will be conducting a search to find a new executive director over the next few weeks.

“During this transition period, it is our priority to find the best individual to lead, while still maintaining a stable and effective organization. We will share the job announcement soon and ask for your help in identifying candidates who can help Main Street Greenville continue along this successful trajectory,” she said.

Garrett said the decision to depart did not come easily.

“I am extremely proud of all that Main Street Greenville has accomplished during the past four years,” she said. “I hold dear to my heart the relationships I’ve built during my time as Executive Director.”

“I want to give my deepest gratitude to all who have been so supportive of the organization and of me personally over the years: board members, volunteers, downtown businesses, our supporters, my friends, and my family.”

“Without you, the organization would not be as strong and vibrant as it is. I am so HONORED to have been the leader of this incredible organization and will watch with much excitement and anticipation as it makes strides preserving and revitalizing downtown Greenville,” Garrett added.
