Come see us at the fair

DARKE COUNTY – Great Darke County fair-goers will want to check out the Daily Advocate booth in the coliseum on the fairgrounds Friday, Aug. 21-Saturday, Aug. 28. Not only will there be free give-aways and lots to see in the football-chicken-themed booth, there also will be an opportunity to help our Newspaper in Education program.

A special poster of the cartoon map of the fairgrounds published in our Darke County Fair Magazine will be available for donation to the NIE program which is an international educational effort that helps teachers and parents use the very latest textbook — their local daily newspaper — to instruct young people about the world around them, fuel their desire to learn about many topics and encourage a love of reading.

In addition to receiving the poster sponsored by Wholesale Carpet Outlet, 301 E. Main St., Gettysburg, donors will receive a chance to win a Daily Advocate football jersey.

Also, sign up to win a brand new recliner, just in time for football season, courtesy of Furniture Express, 640 Wagner Ave., Greenville.

While you’re at the booth, pick up your free copy of Darke County’s Fair Magazine, that features fair stories, winners and daily schedules.

No poultry may be allowed on the fairgrounds this year because state officials banned chickens and other bird projects due to the outbreak of bird flu, but we aim to have some fun with our very own chicken – Mac “The Scrambler” Eggwhite!

Mac will be roaming the grounds and looking to take selfies with fair-goers as he hands out giveaways during special times and days.

Mac will be in front of the Grandstands Sunday, Aug. 23 from 5:30- 7:30 p.m. before the Hunter Hayes concert looking to have a rootin’ tootin’ good time with excited concert-goers.

On Monday, Aug. 24, he’ll be strolling the Midway looking for some kids to have some fun with! He’ll be there from 1:30-3:30 p.m. handing out some goodies.

On Wednesday, Aug. 26, Mac will be in front of the Grandstands again from 5-6 p.m. looking to help honor our veterans with American flags, donated by VFW 7262, prior to the Veteran’s Parade.

And on Friday, Aug. 28, he’ll be serving free pizza, courtesy of Marco’s Pizza, Greenville, to visitors from 12-1 p.m. at The Daily Advocate booth in the coliseum.

Other activities at The Daily Advocate booth include a free blood pressure screening on Monday, Aug. 24 from 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m. courtesy of Comprehensive Health Network.

Don’t forget to grab a copy of The Daily Advocate for daily Great Darke County Fair coverage. A special fair results section will be published inside The Daily Advocate on Friday, Sept. 18.

Photos and stories will also be posted to our website at dailyadvocate.com and to our Facebook pages – advocate360 and Darke County Sports.
