DAYTON — Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine, Montgomery County Sheriff Phil Plummer, and members of the Miami Valley Bulk Smuggling Task Force announced June 23 that a cocaine investigation has taken 3 kilos of cocaine worth $300,000 off the streets and had led to the arrests of two Texas men accused of smuggling drugs across several states.

Investigators from the Miami Valley Bulk Smuggling Task Force started tracking suspected smugglers Jorge Alberto Enriquez and Jose Artemio Sloss at a Dayton-area hotel last week and followed them as they travelled through several states. On a trek from Detroit to the Miami Valley on Thursday, law enforcement stopped their vehicle and discovered 3 kilos of cocaine. Later, a search of their hotel room uncovered $234,848 in cash and a firearm. Both men were arrested on federal drug charges of conspiracy to distribute cocaine and transported to the Montgomery County Jail.

“I’m proud of the work members of the Miami Valley Bulk Smuggling Task Force do every day to intercept drugs as smugglers move them in and out of the Dayton area and through many other cities in Ohio,” said Attorney General DeWine. “This is just the latest example of the power of teamwork in combating the drug problem in Ohio.”

“We can’t do it alone,” said Montgomery County Sheriff Phil Plummer. “We are all in this together to make our community and other areas in and around the Miami Valley safe. It’s a collaborative effort between federal, state and local agencies that continues to make our work successful. I would like to thank the community for their continued support in calling our drug tip line and assisting us in stopping these drugs from hitting our streets.”

The Miami Valley Bulk Smuggling Task Force, which is part of the Ohio Attorney General’s Ohio Organized Crime Investigations Commission, is made up of officers from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, The Ohio State Highway Patrol, Miami Township Police Department, Butler Township Police Department, Montgomery County RANGE Task Force, Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation, Homeland Security Investigations, Drug Enforcement Administration and Montgomery County Prosecutor’s Office.
