GREENVILLE — Fire up your engines! Greenville Farm Power of the Past commenced its 18th annual reunion at the Darke County Fairgrounds despite overcast skies and rain in the forecast.

Festivities for the July 6 to 9 show kicked off Thursday morning with a flag-raising ceremony, followed by the playing of America’s National Anthem. Organization Chaplain Pastor Jim Meredith then led the group in a prayer.

Darke County Commissioner Mike Stegall called the show an “icon in Darke County.”

“It shows us where we’ve been and where we’re going,” he said. “All the farming equipment we’ve had, what we have now, and what we will build in the future, is represented here.”

Darke County Fair Manager Brian Rismiller said the show “provides a good heritage of what the Darke County Agricultural Society did back in the past, and we welcome you.”

“What a wonderful group of people,” said Greenville Mayor Steve Willman. “It takes such hard work to put this together.”

This year’s show is the fifth one for Farm Power of the Past President Von Oswalt, who’s been involved in the organization since 2000. This year’s featured exhibitors are the Custom Tractor Collectors, B.F. Avery Collectors, and the Empire Tractor Club.

“This show was three years in the planning to get all it all coordinated for these three groups to be here,” Oswalt said.

He said organizers expect an estimate 2,500 people to attend this year’s show.

In addition to viewing hundreds of examples of farm equipment of various types and eras, visitors Thursday through Sunday can watch a number of activities, including a Horse and Mule Fun Show, Truck and Tractor pulls, Antique Tractor pulls, Kiddie Tractor pulls, Horse and Pony pulls. As well, guests can browse many vendor tents and enjoy food and music. Sunday will see a Car Show and Cruise In from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The show ends Sunday at 3 p.m.

The Farm Power of the Past 19th annual reunion will take place July 5 to 8, 2018 and will feature Case and Oliver, Oil Field Engines and Michigan Built Engines, and will host the Buckeye Oliver Club Summer Show.
