DARKE COUNTY — J.D. Winteregg (R-Troy) has announced his candidacy to represent the people of the 80th House District of Ohio. This seat is being vacated by the current State Representative Steve Huffman, who is running for the Ohio Senate.

The district includes Miami County and the southern part of Darke County. The Republican primary election will be held May 8, 2018.

As a former teacher, current Grain Merchandiser, and Trustee on the Miami County Farm Bureau, Winteregg has firsthand experience in our schools, the farming community, and small business. He is also a recent graduate of the Ohio Farm Bureau’s AgriPOWER leadership program, where he worked with state legislators in Columbus and gained experience advocating for agricultural issues. He plans to use these experiences to improve the representation of this district.

“Over the past several years, while working within our communities and advocating at the Statehouse, I’ve seen that many of our representatives use their elected positions to make careers instead of serving the people they are supposed to represent. Rarely do we see someone with current, real-life experience in the areas that are important to our district — this is what sets me apart,” he said.

“I am excited to represent the great folks of Miami and southern Darke counties,” Winteregg said. “While I believe in and will represent all the great conservative values — supporting the 2nd Amendment, protecting life, and getting Big Government out of the way, among others — I also stand for a higher standard of representation. It’s time to move away from the attitude of entitlement that we’ve seen in elected officials in recent years and to elect someone with fresh ideas and a genuine desire to serve the constituents. It’s what the people in this district deserve.”

“I promise to make myself a more accountable, more transparent, and more accessible representative than we’ve known in the past. I promise to use the experiences I’ve had in education, agriculture, and small business to truly represent the interests and values of this district in Columbus, and I promise to include the people of the district in that process,” he added.

Winteregg and his wife Aimee live in Troy with their son. He is a former educator who works at a locally-known grain elevator, and he and his family attend First Baptist Church in Troy.
